SnoPlace

“SnoPlace” at Government Camp is a winter retreat designed for two families who have spent their winter weekends in Govy for years. The families came to Terry Amundson to have a home designed that could provide a retreat for both families.

The home was designed with large open shared spaces to allow for large group gatherings. A high concrete foundation wall accommodates the snow build-up. Large overhangs direct snow away from foundations, limiting snow pack against the exterior walls. Many sustainable aspects were incorporated into the home, including a hydronic heating system that serves all three floors, which can be controlled remotely through a computer connection. Clerestory windows on the main floor living space allow extensive natural light and cross ventilation. The fireplace is a highly efficient Rumford design, constructed with a board-formed concrete exterior.
